For writing this Term, we have been doing exposition writing A.K.A ARGUMENTS. At the moment we are persuading about if we should be able to bring technology on our class trip and sleepover. IT'S ACTUALLY QUITE FUN.

Technology... PLEASE!

Dearest Mrs Shuker (A.K.A. Best Teacher In The Whole Entire Civilised Universe),
We strongly believe that you should definitely allow us to bring the wonderful invention that is technology on our Class Trip and Sleepover.
We know what you’re thinking: People will be distracted by technology, and therefore will not engage with the people around them. Don’t worry - we have some conditions:
- Cell-phones, smartphones and iPhones can only be used for calling in emergencies (e.g., someone breaks their leg and needs to ring their parents - not that that would happen with such an organised and responsible teacher as you, of course!)
- Gaming systems such as Playstations and Xboxes can be stationed in the Learning Centre, and groups can take turns on them.
If we hadn’t already mentioned, those conditions were only for the Sleepover. You see, we feel quite differently about the Bus Trip...
You know how completely boring long bus trips are, and you probably also have heard the saying “Time flies when you’re having fun” (oh, of course you’ve heard it before, being the smart, knowledgeable teacher that you are!) Anyway, can you see the connection between those two things? We propose that you should let us use technology during the Bus Trip.
So, now on to the important topic of cameras. Memories, capturing the moment, reliving the past, however you look at it, doesn’t it seem important to remember this trip? First of all, from the parents perspective. Don’t you think the parents want to see how the trip that they paid for, fundraised for and put their blood, sweat and tears into, turned out? Opportunities like this only come once in a lifetime (we mean the opportunity to spend a whole day and night with an awesome teacher like you! But the trip is good too!)
Well, if you don't let us bring technology, then you can't bring technology! What's that you always say? "Treat everyone equally and with respect!" And ... "I am always trying to make things fair for the whole of Room 7!" So then, if you get to bring technology, then we get to bring technology! How is that R.A.M.S. form going to work out for you? If no one has a cell phone, or contact to anyone outside of the bus, then how will we communicate with parents, emergency services or Strike!, to let them know if we are going to be late? Well ... I guess, we could always catch a pigeon, but that would be a going back to Prehistoric times! Technology is a part of the 21st century, a bit closer to home, don't you think?
Still not sold? Well, remember how, when students are travelling by bus to the School Swimming Practice, it always gets so noisy that you teachers have to force us to play the Silent Game or something tedious like that? No-one enjoys being on a loud, noisy bus (especially not the driver), so what better way to keep kids quiet then to let them be absorbed in Minecraft or Temple Run on their iPods?
If you still don’t agree with us, we have one word for you: Books. We doubt that you would have a problem with someone reading a book during the bus trip. So then, what is the difference between getting stuck into a book, or getting stuck on a level of Cut The Rope? Okay, so the content is different, but you said it yourself that this trip was not for educational purposes, but simply for fun. Surely you won’t ignore your own rules?
We hope that we have persuaded you to let us bring technology on our Class Trip and Sleepover. If we haven’t, that’s okay. What’s the worst that could happen without it anyway? Let’s see, someone could die because of a broken leg, the bus driver could go deaf, we could die of boredom... that R.A.M.S. form better be pretty thorough!
